I'm a long-time computer power user, and I've found my laptop. This Lenovo is powerful, good looking, and easy to use.

For starters, right out of the box, the metal finish gives it an upscale appearance. Rather than the usual plastic, the real metal finish not only looks better, but also adds some durability to the case. Upon inserting the power pack and plugging it in, the first thing you'll notice is the monochromatic lighting. No fancy purple and blue lights for charging, this has a very steam-punk look that goes well with the metal finish.

On the first boot, you'll notice the vibrant screen, with its LED backlighting. Not only is it clear and brilliant, but the LED lighting will provide more use on a single charge. Now you're in Windows 7, and the i# and 6GB of RAM take over. Speed is apparent right from the start. I did remove MacAffee immediately and replace it with Vipre, which does speed up boot time. Nevertheless, this is a fast booting machine. Part of the "Lenovo Experience" is a speedy boot. After switching to Vipre, I allowed the PC to optimize the boot time, and it got the boot down to 37 seconds. Fortunately, Lenovo isn't only concerned with boot up time, but also shut down time.

Now on to use. MS Word starts up and runs like lightning. Truly faster than any other PC I've used. Another nice touch is that both Google Chrome and IE9 come pre-installed. Sure, Chrome is free, but many people just use what came with their PC, so this is a nice change. Browsing is speedy as well. But, work isn't all we do on computers, so I had to test it with some entertainment.

I started with Command and Conquer: The First Decade, as a warm up. As I expected, it worked fine. I moved on to Command and Conquer 3, and it worked beautifully and smoothly at the "Ultra-High Quality" setting. That brought me to the real test. I downloaded Star Trek Online. This is a game that has defeated all but one PC in my home. Surely, this would over-tax a little laptop? Well, it runs perfectly. Smooth and even. Truly impressive!

Another tough test, time for DirecTV2PC. I ran the adviser and got three red lights (which should mean it will not work), but I installed it anyway. It ran beautifully, and even HDTV from the DVR was smooth and had no hiccups. I checked the adviser and the red lights were not horsepower related, but rather digital rights management related, so it will likely not work if you try to out-put the signal via HDMI, but it works fine on the laptop itself.

There are several other Lenovo perks like the one-touch restore. I didn't try that (since it is working perfectly), but I sure could use that on one of my Gateway laptops right now! Another is the facial recognition login. This is really cool. It uses the webcam to take your picture, and then recognizes you when you need to log back in. It doesn't fall for a still photo either, only a real person can unlock it.

Now, there is only one minor imperfection. The glidepad is textured. I don't know why they decided to do this, but it becomes irritating to the finger after a good bit of use.

This is an outstanding workhorse of a laptop, and definitely the best one I have ever used. You should really consider it. I have read this laptop as being compared to the MacBook Pro, and I can see it. I'm not a Mac fan, but with the intuitive OS of Windows 7, and with the solid hardware, this is certainly the better choice, especially with the money you'll save!

Finally, I liked this laptop so much, I have put in a recommendation at work to replace our current PCs with this exact model. That's how impressed I am with this laptop!
