It is useful, light weight and small enough to travel with it. With a good speed internet connection I am able to watch with excellent quality videos, movies and TV series. As well, gaming is a new experience for me with this laptop.Windows and Office runs very well in this Laptop, makes the work very fast and easy. Speakers are not so good so if you need or want to listen intall an exteral system or headphones.

I previously bought a Toshiba Laptop 5 years ago and surprisingly still running very well for basic functions with 1GB. Now I use both for different purpose.

(PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT THIS IS A CONSTRUCTIVE REVIEW. YOUR VIOLENT REACTIONS WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED.)

Story:
my old laptop has finally retired after a few years and I wanted something a little bit more affordable and portable without compromising performance. the older model of this laptop (HP DM4-3050) a lot of good reviews so I bought this one.

REVIEW:

1.) DIMENSIONS (size and weight)
First thing that I noticed when I bought this was the dimensions of this laptop. It's actually unusual for a 14" laptop (not 14.1") to be this small and portable. The weight is about 4 pounds (rounding-off) and its very comfortable to carry around on my backpack (even carrying this bare-handed is convenient!) in some cases, this laptop can even fit some 13.3" laptop sleeves. The size of the screen is adequate for documentation, watching movies, internet browsing and even Photo editing.

2.) PHYSICAL HARDWARE AND APPEARANCE
The Laptop is has a steel aluminum plate covering and doesn't take fingerprints (unless you have oily or sweaty hands). very easy to clean and doesn't attract too many dust particles. The webcam with integrated microphone is better than average since it adjusts to the light that surrounds the user of the laptop. There is also a Bluetooth (which a lot of laptops of this level doesn't have) if you want to transfer files wireless. Keyboard is comfortable for typing and doing shortcuts. this laptop has three USB ports in total (two 3.0 USB PORTS on the left and one 2.0 USB PORT on the right). This also has an HMDI port if you want to connect your laptop to your big screen television. Mouse pad has excellent sensitivity and the buttons are good. I really love the finger sensor on this laptop because its very convenient for windows start up and logging into your accounts (no need to type your username and password all the time, just set it up on your HP simple pass and your all good!). The Hard Drive has about 610GB usable memory (the other 30GB is for recovery and system files)is more than enough if you have a lot of files to store. The BEATS AUDIO that was put into this laptop is better than most laptops. Highs and Mids are good. HP actually did a great job of putting in a very small sub-woofer for low frequency sounds and better acoustic.(I'm a music professional so my standards are a little high).

I only have three comments about this laptop...
1.) I wish the SD Card Port has a cover...
2.) the Keyboard doesn't have a back-lit.
3.) the OPTICAL DRIVE button is hard to press (not a deal breaker), hence the 4 stars.

3.) PERFORMANCE
everything actually depends on the type of work that you do on your laptop. My routine is centered on multi-tasking (internet browsing, playing some music, editing photos, videos and music,using Microsoft office, etc) No problems at all. The 8GB RAM and i5-2430m Intel core Processor (has 4 processors with a speed of 2.4 GHz each) has a start-up of about 15-18seconds and 10 seconds to shut-down. It doesn't have any problem running ANY kind of programs you throw at it. The Intel HD Graphics is enough for High-Definition Videos (both 720p and 1080p) and some Games that require high specs (sorry, not a gamer).

**If you want to maximize the performance of this laptop, I highly recommend you take out all the bloatwares (HP and other programs that's already in the laptop). It took me about 15-20 minutes to do this.

EXTRA REASONS WHY THIS LAPTOP IS A GOOD BUY:

-This laptop has a security Hard Drive feature. If ever you accidentally bumped your laptop into something or it falls into the floor, It will automatically LOCK your hard drive, and this will help you recover important files if ever the laptop breaks.

-The HP Cool Sense Temperature Control Automatically adjusts to its surroundings so your laptop doesn't overheat (whether it's on the table or on your lap.)

-I've already said this, but I want to emphasize this really good feature. The FINGER SENSOR which helps save time when your logging into your windows start-up or into your private accounts.(No need to type your username and password again and again.)

OVERALL, this laptop is solid and excellent whether you're a student or a professional. In terms of the price, It is actually a money saver if you're looking for the same specs as me. Hope this review helps you.

I did alot of research before purchasing this laptop! I determined that I would buy this one and I have to say, I think I made a wise decision.Almost everything about this computer exceeded my expectations. The Windows 7 is really awesome. I also like the built in WEBCAM and the BLU-RAY features. Definitely deserves a 5 Star Rating to me.

I'm very happy with this machine. Fast, light, solid build, good-looking, great screen, comfortable back-lit keyboard. About identical in size and weight to a 13-inch Macbook, but with a 14" screen. Screen resolution is 1600 x 900, equivalent to Macbook and a step up from the 1366 x 768 standard on a lot of Windows laptops. (Sony touts its "full HD" 1920 x 1080 displays, but I found it made screen objects just too small. This is a happy medium.) It's quiet: the fan hardly ever comes on, and when it does it's not too loud. Good battery life: 5 to 6 hours easily without even going to the "max" power-saving scheme.

I have no real complaints, only a couple of wishes. More USB ports -- it has one 2.0 and one 3.0 (although personally I've never needed more); a Blu-ray drive; a Core i7 option.

I bought this after returning a 15.5" Sony Vaio S-series, which had a flimsy, wobbly screen with the aforementioned "Full HD", an annoying off-center touchpad, and a form factor that was just too big and wide. I'm much happier with the Samsung.

One recommendation: whichever power-management scheme you use, edit it so that the wireless card is set to "Maximum Performance" when unplugged -- the default slows wireless to a crawl in order to save a little juice. (If you see Samsung dinged on forums for slow wireless, that's why, and it's an easy adjustment that completely resolves the issue.)

Update 7/9/12: I'm still very happy with it. No changes to my earlier comments. Some people complain about the touchpad, it is very sensitive by default, but I lowered the sensitivity using the control panel and now it rarely misinterprets random thumb or palm touches as taps.

This is a great product. Sturdy construction, great screen resolution, super lightweight, boots up reasonably fast (it's Windows 7), 4GB of memory - value wise, it's hard to beat. Battery life is not staggering compared to some of the Apple products I own, but I needed a windows based machine for a specific application and this one did the trick.

So I noticed some weak reviews for this product and am quite disgusted. I bought this unit from Best Buy and have so far been impressed. I typically am a desktop user, in fact, I normally custom build my own rigs. I was in the market for a laptop, and didn't want to frustrate myself with custom building one so I shopped around a lot. For the price, it will be difficult to beat this machine. The only laptops that will come close (Dell XPS, AlienWare, and MSI) would all likely cost and extra $500-$1000. Every game I have played so far (Portal 2, Skyrim, etc) have ran on ultra settings with extremely great frame rates. Now for the Pros and cons:

Pros: Great heat displacement, it has two large exhaust ports on the backside of the machine. This keeps the heat off of the bottom and allows for "lap-top" computing. Processing speed is amazing. Cost is low, but shop around, I got it at Bust Buy for $200 cheaper (though the build is not exact to this model make your own decisions as to what you need). Back-lit key board is extremely neat. Large vibrant HD screen. Its not loaded down with a bunch of bloatware and demos. GTX 660M is a great GPU for most all (with the exception of the have to have the most expensive and overkill, melt your face GPU) users. Additional port for secondary HDD. Easy access for upgrades to HDD an memory. Ivy Bridge! This thing has blistering fast multi-app processing power!

Cons (and the reason for 4 stars): The biggest drawback for me is the 1TB HDD, as it is slow (7200 RPM). For this reason alone Windows Experience Index rated it a 5.9. All other ratings were mid to upper 7's. Shame on you Asus. For $130 buy a 128GB SSD from Amazon and up your computing potential. Just use the 1TB as a slave. It is bulky, but to be expected as it is a gaming lappy. Good luck trying to find a case that fits it.Lastly the power brick is enormous and the battery is lucky to give you 1.5 hrs unplugged. Again, this is a gaming laptop so this is to be expected.

Other thoughts: The pros highly out weigh the cons! For the price this Republic of Gamers laptop by Asus is a great investment.

This is a really great computer for gaming. Skyrim plays on the highest settings, Mass Effect 2 and Half life 2 run really well as well.
